Kiru Psychotherapy Clinic
"The school called again."
Three calls this month. A stomachache every Sunday night. A kid who used to say yes to birthday parties and now says no to everything, and a drop-off that’s become a negotiation you lose daily. You’ve tried the reward chart, the deep breaths, and the calm voice.
You're not out of love. You're out of moves.
We know:
Anxiety and confidence can’t share a room.
Every time we help your child avoid the hard thing, anxiety takes up more space, leaving less room for confidence to grow.
Therapy teaches your child to do hard things, and teaches you how to stop protecting them from the ones they can handle.

At Kiru Psychotherapy Clinic,
we believe confidence is a skill, not a personality trait your child was supposed to be born with. Skills can be taught to your child and to you. Every person we see gets a plan with clear goals, and a therapist who’ll be 100% honest with you.
The Cognitive Freedom Program
Program For Adults With Anxiety
“This is evidence-based, start to finish. If you want internal change, rather than just insight, you’ve come to the right place.”
People-pleasing. Over-Working. Avoidance. Procrastination. Emotional reactivity. Four ways we make life harder while trying to make it easier.
If this sounds like you:
The Cognitive Freedom Program is a 12-week adult therapy program, designed to change the cognitive and emotional patterns that drive those reactions in the first place.
Each week you watch one short lesson, then meet one-on-one with your therapist to put it to work on whatever is happening in your life right now. Once a month, you join a live group call with Dr. Shyamala Kiru, creator of the program.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does therapy cost?
Fees vary by each therapist’s level of training and experience, and we keep a range so therapy stays within reach for more families, including some reduced-rate spots. We’ll walk you through the numbers on your free consult before you commit to anything.
Do you offer insurance coverage?
Most extended health plans in Ontario cover psychotherapy provided by a Registered Psychotherapist. Coverage depends on your specific plan, so check with your provider and ask what they cover for an RP. We provide a detailed receipt after every session for you to submit.
Do you offer virtual therapy, in-person therapy, or both?
Both. See us in person at our Newmarket office at 75 Main St S, Newmarket, or online anywhere in Ontario. Research shows virtual therapy is as effective as in-person for most concerns, and some people find it easier to be honest from their own kitchen. Lots of families mix the two, in person when it helps and online when the week gets away from them.
Who do you work with?
Children from age 6, teens, adults, parents, couples, and families. Our team of Registered Psychotherapists is regulated by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, and each therapist works with specific age groups and areas of focus. We’ll sort out who fits on your free consult.
How do I choose the right therapist for me?
You don’t have to. That’s our job. On your free consult, we’ll ask what’s going on, what you’ve already tried, and what you want to be different, then match you with the right therapist on our team. You’re welcome to read the bios and pick someone yourself. If the fit isn’t right, say so, and we’ll move you. Nobody’s feelings will be hurt.
What happens in the first therapy session?
Your first therapy session is extended, because a rushed assessment gives you a rushed plan. We dig into what’s driving the problem, what you want instead, and what’s already been tried, then build a treatment plan with clear goals. You’ll leave knowing what we’re working on and why.
My child won't come to therapy. What options do I have?
Better ones than you’d think. Book a free consult, and we’ll find a path forward, which often starts with parent coaching. We get one hour a week. You get the other 167, so the maths favours you. When you change how you respond, communicate, and set expectations at home, your child feels it. This works particularly well with kids and teens who have already announced they’re not going.
My partner won't come to therapy. What do I do?
Start without them. You don’t need both people in the room to change how the relationship works, because relationships run on patterns, and patterns shift when one person stops playing their usual part. Plenty of our couples therapy clients in Newmarket begin solo. Some partners join later once they see something’s changed. Some never do, and the work still holds.
How long will I need to be in therapy?
That depends on what you’re working on, and we’ll give you an honest estimate rather than a vague one. Some people come for six to eight sessions to sort out one specific thing. Others stay longer for deeper relationship or family work. We’re results-focused, so you’ll always know where you are in the plan. We’re not trying to keep you here.
