Founder and Clinic Director,
Retired Psychotherapist
“The quality of our lives is determined by the quality of our relationships.“
— Dr. Shyamala Kiru
It’s 11 PM, and you’re on your phone again, reading about anxiety. The dishes are still out. You’ve read the books, tried the advice, and maybe sat through therapy before, the kind where you left feeling heard, and then the next week came around, and nothing had changed.
Dr. Shyamala Kiru saw that gap early in her career. Therapy was often open-ended, warm, but short on results. Clients left feeling understood without tools they could use at home.
In 2011, she founded Kiru Psychotherapy Clinic to do it differently: practical, structured, and built around measurable change. She spent over two decades as a Registered Psychotherapist and Registered Marriage and Family Therapist, holds a doctorate in couple and family therapy, and is now retired and leads her team here.
She learned something profound that her practice brings in today:
A child’s anxiety doesn’t live in the child alone. It lives in the house, in the responses, in the thousand small moments a parent handles before breakfast.
Kids read the room long before they read anything else, so the calm you’re performing at the school door isn’t the signal they’re picking up. That’s uncomfortable to hear, and it’s also the most hopeful thing we know, because it means you have real influence over what happens next. Most clinics treat the child and send the parent to the waiting room.
We treat the pattern, and the people in it.
Today we help children, teens, adults, parents, couples, and families across Ontario create change that holds. Every therapist here is regulated by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario and trained in evidence-based approaches, including CBT for anxiety and confidence, EFT for couples, and attachment-based coaching for parents. You’ll get a treatment plan with clear goals and a therapist who tells you the truth kindly.
This is not traditional talk therapy. There’s no couch, there’s no lying down, and nobody’s going to nod at you for fifty minutes. You’ll leave each session with something you can use before the week is out, and you’ll feel the difference at home.
At Kiru Psychotherapy Clinic, Therapy Is:

We're not trying to keep you here forever. You'll leave knowing what changed, why it changed, and how to hold it.

You'll always know where you are in the plan, what you're working on, and where it's going. Clear beats open-ended.

The relationship in the room is the work, not the packaging around it. Trust makes change faster and deeper.
Our Approach
How Our Psychotherapy Works

Step 1: Identify
We start by getting clear on what's driving what you're experiencing and what you most want to be different, so we know exactly where we're starting and where we're headed.

Step 2: Plan
Together we build a structured, personalized treatment plan with clear goals, so every session has a purpose, and you always know what you're working toward and why.

Step 3: Execute
We work the plan, session by session, making real-time adjustments and coaching you toward the results you came for, until the change you wanted becomes the life you're living.
