Clinic Director

As our founder and Clinic Director, Dr. Shyamala leads with a vision of making psychotherapy practical, accessible, and deeply transformative. With a doctorate in Couple and Family Therapy, and after years of serving as both a Registered Psychotherapist and Registered Marriage and Family Therapist, Dr. Shyamala now brings her depth of clinical experience to leadership.

Although she is now retired from clinical practice, she continues to guide the team with unwavering care, clarity, and over two decades of therapeutic expertise — ensuring that every client receives care that is both compassionate and results-driven.

For over 20 years, I’ve been deeply committed to providing mental health care that’s both practical and truly transformative. At Kiru Psychotherapy Clinic, we focus on approaches like narrative therapy, emotionally focused therapy, and cognitive behavioural therapy—evidence-based models that support meaningful, lasting change.

As the Founder and Clinic Director of Kiru Psychotherapy Clinic, I’m proud to lead a team that helps people reconnect with themselves, strengthen their relationships, and move toward the life they truly want. Beyond the clinic, I’m also an author, public speaker, and media contributor, with features on CP24, CTV, Chatelaine, The Toronto Star, and The Globe and Mail. I also spent nearly a decade as a regular expert on a national TV show.

But the role that brings me the most joy—and keeps me grounded—is being a mother. Raising my daughter reminds me every day of the power of trusting yourself, following your passion, and living with intention. My personal mantra is to laugh often (it’s the best therapy, if you ask me!) and to encourage others to create a life they absolutely love.

Thank you for being here. I’m so honoured to support you in your journey toward healing, clarity, and joy.
